USMVSA’s most outstanding event has to be our “Are You the One” Valentine Event, which took place on February 11-14, 2019 and it consisted of approximately fifteen people. It was a full compact week of fun themed events every day. Every day a person is matched with a different person randomly. The goal of the matches is to create a bigger bond with the significant other and that would cause a domino effect for the whole VSA to have a bigger and better and stronger bond. The first day was Movie Night Monday. As the crescent moon shined above the scene, below it was USMVSA cuddling up with one another and watching the movie Warm Bodies. Popeyes and delicious candies was not the only thing shared that first night, it was a new love. The second day was Tasty Tuesday and everyone and their new matches went on a date to Buffalo Wild Wings. From sharing wings and feeding one another fried pickles, it was the best date all of us have ever been on. After that night, our stomachs was full, but so was our hearts. The third day was Win It Wednesday (Game Night). Everyone and their new matches put each other to the test and battled it out to the death of love. Everyone was quizzed on how well they knew their matches, similar to the newlywed game. Many succeeded and some failed, but the love and the laughter we shared prevailed. The last and final day was Truthful Tuesday and each person found their perfect USMVSA soulmate match. The best way to the heart is food, so we celebrated by intertwining the soulmates by baking cookies.

What inspired your organization to create this new event?

We wanted to create a bigger bond between the members since fall semester there were some rough starts. We wanted to remind our members that no matter how harsh the times are USMVSA will still be around to give love and we do not discriminate between the days of our activeness in the group or not. We believed that celebrating a week of love could bring USMVSA to a closer ground and just have a good time.

What efforts were used to motivate and involve the organization’s members?

One of the efforts we took in order to promote the members to attend this week long event is through social media and during meetings. Everyone thought this event idea was fun and fresh and so everyone wanted to attend.

Did the organization overcome any challenges that arose while planning and implementing the event? How?

A challenge that arose was everyone couldn’t attend every day of the event, so eboard had to match people on the spot, but it was always an easy fix. Another goal of this event is to not only show love to one another in our VSA but also it was a stress reliever from our academics. Since Valentine’s Day is about love, we wanted to show an appreciation to our members by giving more of our hearts to one another.
