Please describe the purpose of this video, your intention and goals, as well as creative process behind it.
This was shown before VEGA to hype the crowd up for the event while also introducing the current VSA LSU eboard and emcees. The end scene was added after to introduce the new eboard for the 2019-2020 year. The beginning of the video starts off saying “There was an idea… to bring together a group of remarkable people… to see if we can become something more… so when they needed us, we could fight the battles that they never could”. This refers to the beginning of the year when the VSA-LSU eboard of 2018-2019 was first gathered together. A group of remarkable people who have to grow in order to successfully run an organization while also fighting a battle to balance school, social life, and VSA. This was followed by a rapid succession of pictures of past eboard members that we hope to surpass.
“In time, you will know what it’s like to lose. To feel so desperately that you’re right, yet to fail all the same. Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives.” While on eboard, you face many failures and may want to quit or just run away from all the problems, but no matter what happens, VSA still moves on and so does each eboard member. With all the failures, we eventually learn to move on and use this experience to grow and improve in the future, just as the Avengers group does so does our eboard; as seen through Patrick putting on a suit, which symbolizes growth.
“Evacuate the city” means to gather all VSA members in one area (Cotillion Ballroom) while also recruiting people for entertainment, as shown through the piano. “Engage all defenses” refers back to our own general members, or emcees, for helping make VSA and this event a fun environment to be in. “And get this man a shield” refers back to VSA being a safe zone, shielded from any judgement and a place to express your culture openly with others.
“Fun isn’t something one considers when renewing the world, but this, does put a smile on my face.” Throughout the year, being on eboard can be stressful and tough to be on, but at the end of it all, when the old eboard sees how happy people in the organization are and how successful of a year it was, it really puts a smile on our face. When on eboard, you do have to be serious about your job, but you do also have to realize that you joined this organization to escape the stress of school and have fun. This is represented through the clip shown at this point of the video to add some comic relief and a nice joke to the video.
Throughout the rest of the video, we show the struggles of juggling school, friendships, games/me time, and social life while also being on eboard. The video ends on the new eboard being introduced.
