Our approach for this year’s Date Auction video was a bit different from previous years in terms of style, tone, and storytelling. In previous years, our videos, as well as other videos from other VSAs in the Gulf Coast, would always involve some comedic elements and humor to their videos because audiences usually gravitate towards comedy. However, we wanted to take a step back from comedic videos and produce something with a more serious tone. We wanted to do something different for Date Auction for a change and our director, Dat Le loved the idea. We knew we were going to produce a video involving a tragic storyline so we choose the Great Depression as out Date Auction theme because the struggles and turmoils of that time period really speak for themselves and add a layer of seriousness and emotional weight that the video needed. During the Great Depression, food and crime were a major problem during that time period and we wanted to include these themes into our video to reflect the times and produce some backstory and conflict in our video. There was a lot of work leading up to the final product such as the finalization of the script, the long video shoots, and the editing. This was our most ambitious Date Auction video to date and overall, we were happy with what we accomplished.
Additional comments (Optional)
Unfortunately, due to time constraints we couldn’t show the whole video during Date Auction and decided to cut some parts out from the final version.
