On March 14, 2016 UVSA Gulf Coast co-hosted an event in which Garden Grove Mayor Bao Nguyen visited New Orleans. Mr. Nguyen is the first Vietnamese-American to be elected as Mayor in the United States. Former Congressman Joseph Cao was also invited to this event, hosted at Xavier University’s Ballroom. Both Mayor Nguyen and Congressman Cao hosted a Q&A session in which they spoke about their work experience and what it means to be Vietnamese in leadership.Read More
On Friday, February 19 UVSA Gulf Coast hosted its first regional Tét event at Loyola University New Orleans. VSAs from eight of the ten affiliate Gulf Coast schools collaborated on this first-ever event, including: Louisiana State University, Loyola University New Orleans, Mississippi State University, Tulane University, University of Mississippi, University of New Orleans, University of Southern Alabama, and Xavier University of Louisiana.
UVSA Gulf Coast hosted its second annual President’s Retreat from May 20 to May 31, 2015 at Fort Walton Beach, FL. The Union of Vietnamese Student Associations of the Southern Region (UVSA South) held its annual Leadership Summit, themed “Unbreakable Unity,” from March 27 to March 29, 2016 in Dallas, TX. The Summit is a weekend filled with social activities, workshops, discussions, and collaboration for leaders within the Southern region of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.
