What efforts were used to motivate and involve the organization’s members?

This year, XULAVA was heavily involved with Agrowtopia. Agrowtopia is a student organization at Xavier University of Louisiana that helps maintain a garden area on Xavier Campus. Besides for flyers or emails, we verbally reached out to our members. Especially utilizing our freshman representatives to reach out to their fellow peers. Agrowtopia assist in maintain the area by weeding and cleaning. In addition, Agrowtopia grow and harvest plants such as basil and mint, XULAVA had many community services opportunities with Agrowtopia throughout the 2018-2019 school year with a variation of 5-10 participants. XULAVA decided to provide many opportunities because we believed that it was important to be outdoors. Living a very digital world, where kids by the age of 3 are exposed to phones, youtube, and netflix; we wanted participantss/volunteers to learn some basic proper skills on how to maintain a garden. With the reason that many people may not have even water a plant, weed some plants, or learn the basic skills to do so in their lives. This community service provided an opportunity to gain experience and knowledge on how to properly maintain a garden so participantss/volunteers may take back home with them. They may start gardening or even help out gardening at their own home.
