Please describe the purpose of this dance, including your intention, goals, and creative process.

This dance was performed for MSU’s International Fiesta, an event put on by the school to showcase all the different cultural organizations on campus. The purpose of this dance was to demonstrate Vietnamese culture and traditions, through means of a cultural dance. We wanted to incorporate a traditional dance while also adding a modern flair to it. To keep with traditions, we wore Vietnamese ao dais to highlight the simplistic yet elegant fashion of our people. To balance with modern times, we opted to use a Vietnamese pop song to promote Vietnam’s growing pop scene. Ultimately, we wanted to attract new faces and show that MSU’s Vietnamese community was diverse and open to anyone.
