Tet Fest is an annual cultural event to celebrate the Lunar New Year. There is usually food, performances, and activities. This year Tet Fest was on February 25, 2023. We had around 130 attendees. The goal of this event is to bring people together and share Vietnamese culture with the community through things like lantern painting, fan dances, and sharing banh mi. We made an Instgram post and posted on our Wavesync to advertise the event.
How did this cultural program serve the campus and/or community?
Tet Fest allows for a relaxed space to socialize, enjoy food, and watch performances. Attendees this year loved the fan dance choreographed by Jasmin Nguyen. We also served Vietnamese iced coffee, banh mi, and egg noodles this year. It is a laid back event meant to be a break from the stress of school.
Did the organization overcome any challenges that arose while planning and implementing the cultural program/event? How?
We did have issues with catering as there was traffic and the car was not big enough to hold the food. We did perform the fan dance before serving food to help delay time. We also had issues with some of the approval forms for decorations and supplies. We had to use some of the supplies in our storage and communicate with our advisor on approving those forms. It just took patience and adaptability to overcome the small hiccups we faced.
