VSA-LSU’s Back to School Picnic holds near and dear to many members' hearts as it is one of the first events of the school year, making it one of the most popular. This year, Back to School Picnic was on Friday, September 16th, 2022 at the Burbank Soccer Complex. About 100 members and 50 people from around the region participated in all the fun! This event is to welcome new members to VSA as well as letting returning members and alumni to socialize with each other before the depths of the semester begin. During the event, members can choose to do whatever they choose. For example, there were some members just chatting on a picnic blanket and some members playing a few rounds of volleyball on one of the 2 volleyball nets members brought. This year members brought things like volleyball nets, flag football, soccer balls, spike fall, frisbees and footballs. Food was provided by VSA-LSU but general members had the option to bring some of their own. It is very easy to motivate members to come to Back to School picnic because it is one of the best events to meet new people in the VSA community and at LSU!
What efforts were used to motivate and involve the organization's members?
As Stated above, Members old and new get excited about this event because they get to choose what they want to do, get free food, and just hang out with their friends.
Did the organization overcome any challenges that arose while planning and implementing the event? How?
Back to school picnic is very simple to plan, there were no challenges, only minor hiccups. For Example, Milan had to leave in the middle of the event to go get more plates. luckily there's a Walmart right next to the park!
