General Questions
What are your ideas to keep your Executive Board accountable on a consistent basis?
Similar to a reminder, I’ll notify my board members of their delegated tasks or upcoming deadlines for events periodically.
Describe one strength and one weakness for the position you applied for.
One strength of a secretary is their organization. A secretary should be able to manage timelines and all necessary information for meetings and events. By doing so, the secretary can properly allocate their time and deal with any problems that arise.
One weakness of a secretary may be their unassertiveness. Being that the secretary mainly follows the orders that are given to them, they may be reluctant to voice their opinion about the topic at hand. With this, comes a bigger problem in which the secretary may have problems saying “no”. In doing so, they will often put a lot of tasks on their shoulders, adding more stress than wanted.
Do you have any experience in keeping with a timeline?
Yes, I do. I keep up with VSA-LSU’s events timeline and also utilize my planner for future homeworks and exams.
Are you familiar with Google Drive, when2meet, and slack?
Yes, I am. I use Google Drive in my daily school life, as well as using it to keep up to date with forms and timelines for VSA-LSU. I’ve used when2meet multiple times,.since it spans over such a large time period, to decide on a meeting time that works best for all, rather than simply doing a poll in chats.I’m not that keen on slack but from what I’ve noticed so far from my use, it seems like a more professional version of Discord.
Since our staff demographics consist of mostly college students, what are your techniques to ensure the prevention of burning out yourself, your E-Board, and the young leaders that you work alongside with?
I tend to give myself breaks, whether it be a food run with roommates, a step outside, or a late night game session. I attempt to let my brain soak in the information that I received by doing so.
Some of the responsibilities of the Secretary position includes sending emails, forms, and gathering information from various sources. How would you handle getting information from people who are not responsive to your requests?
In the situation that I need information from people in group chats/group messages, I will send a reminder message, asking the group to make sure they’ve responded to the form. In the situation that I need information through an email, I will send a follow-up email about said topic, asking them if they’ve received my message or have thought about it.
Secretary is a background position. How comfortable are you with not being acknowledged with your work?
Given that I am currently the secretary for VSA-LSU and have a tendency to enjoy the back-stage life, I am more than comfortable to be conducting my work in the background.
