What organization did you collaborate with and why?

UNOVASA’s and XULAVA’s Kickback Collaboration was a new event that helped build better relationships with other VSA’s around us in our city. This was a very fun and casual event that had many people attend.

Provide a detailed description of the event and the population it served. Details MUST include: date of event, number of participants, program purpose (goals, objectives, etc.), use of resources (finances, community support, etc.), and marketing techniques.

The date of the event took place at UNO’s Human Performance Center/ Soccer Field on Sunday, December 15th, 2019 from 12PM to 5PM. Our main objective was to have it a potluck theme and have both schools provide food as well as canopies, tables, outdoor activity games, volleyball, football, soccerball, and even badminton sets. Use of resources were used to pay for drinks, food, and snacks. We hoped for about a good handful and ended up with at least 40 attended throughout the event as it was a very a very laid back casual event. Our marketing techniques involved having a countdown on all social medias and emails about details with the event. We had a PR team which combined both XULAVA’s PR and graphic designer to work alongside UNOVASA'S PR and graphic designer. We implemented a plan starting on Dec 11, to post where, when, and place of the event as well as parking information. Dec 12 involved explaining the event, Dec 13 involved things and items to bring, and Dec 14, was a one day countdown post. Each of those days also has countdowns on IG stories leading up to the event. This was a great way to market and grab attention to those who were interested.

What inspired your organization to collaborate on this event?

We had the idea in the back of our heads about collaborating due to the fact that we were such close schools, it also allowed us to be able to learn what it was like working together with new and fresh minds. It was quite a challenge despite it being a small event but it did show a lot that we had to learn as active leaders and planners!

What efforts were used to motivate and involve members?

A lot of efforts such as marketing on social media and word of mouth was used but also it was the mere time of winter break and everyone was itching to enjoy time with all of their friends and make new friends after finals had just ended.

Did the organization overcome any challenges that arose while planning and implementing the event? How?

A lot of challenges were definitely finding a venue, a place to meet up and discuss, and even plan. Though all of those battles were certainly fixed as soon as possible since we had more people on hand and more resources which made all of the challenges turn into possibilities after.
