Describe the cultural program and how it meets the mission and goals of the organization. Details MUST include: Date of event, number of participants, program purpose (i.e. goals and objectives), member involvement, use of resources, and marketing techniques.

Dumpling Night is a new event aimed at bringing more cultural events to LASO. At this event we showed our members how to wrap dumplings and then cooked and ate together. Dumpling night was held on October 2nd and we had roughly 15 people participate. We used LASO’s treasury and inventory to provide the materials (dumpling wraps, pans, seasoning oils, and filling). Our marketing techniques were through our LASO Week flyer and my word of mouth. Since our general members were placed into families for LASO Week, we encouraged our family members to attend. We also explained LASO Week during our general meetings leading up to the events and linked forms in our LASO GroupMe for Dumpling Night participation.

How did this cultural program serve the campus and/or community?

This program helped bring our community together through a food shared in multiple Asian cultures. This program was especially successful because we had five exchange students, from Japan and South Korea also participate. We were happy to see them involved, since our goal was to make people feel more included in our community.

Did the organization overcome any challenges that arose while planning and implementing the cultural program/event? How?

During the event we noticed that we were running a bit behind due to how long it was taking to cook the dumplings, we overcame this by bringing out batches one at a time and sharing rather than waiting for all of them to arrive at the same time.
