VSA-LSU’s performance went to infinity and beyond this year at UVSA GC’s Date Auction. The talented choreographers Kevin Nguyen, Dominic Do, and Lindsey Phan created a dance filled with unique styles and a short representation of the beloved Pixar Film, Toy Story. The whole dance revolved around the idea that the dancers were the toys who came alive. Each choreographer developed their own choreo as they would make subgroups within the performance itself.

In the beginning, the whole crew kicked it off with the song “Welcome to the Party”. They brought their “A” game with their intense moves to make sure their presence was known throughout the audience, giving each “toy” their own sense of liveliness. Immediately after, Dominic plays the lead character, Woody, and his team of toys (a.k.a. Team Schleep) took the stage with the soothing melody “How Do You Sleep” by Sam Smith. In tune with the song, the dancers' movements flowed smoothly with each note and with a hint of attitude. One could feel the coziness of their plaid, pajama pants and signature “Forky” shirt. Up next, Lindsey and her toy soldier team came through with the powerful beats of Tropkillaz’s “Assets”. Matching the intense tempo, they nailed each move as it was sharp and clean. The keypoint of the choreo was the V formation and its insane ripple effect. Soon after, Kevin with his squad of Buzz Lightyears reached for the sky with “We Can Get High” by Galantis and Yellow Klaw. The dancers were able to form defined hand movements, plus, one cannot forget about that amazing backflip! Following up, the couples’ performed to the slow, heartfelt jam “Until the End of Time” by Justin Timberlake and Beyonce. Finally, all the dancers giddied up and put on their cowboy hats as they two- stepped into the fun and upbeat “The Git Up” by Blanco Brown. As the performance finished, the whole crew united into one whole circle and chanted “L-S-U” excitedly as they represented their pride for VSA-LSU and school.

Without a doubt, VSA-LSU’s performance was incredible with its different dance styles. Just like in Toy Story, the value of teamwork and friendship was displayed all throughout our dancers. As Buzz Lightyear once said, “The important thing is that we stick together!” And that we did! With so many dancers involved, The whole team worked hard as they invested many hours to perfect each move and make their mark on the stage. Most importantly, they built new bonds and relationships filled with special memories and big smiles.
