MOST OUTSTANDING WEB PRESENCE NOMINEE
Xavier University of Louisiana Vietnamese Association
How did your organization excel in web presence and what strategies did you utilize in doing so?
First, we decided to do away with maintaining our Wix page since it was hardly being accessed by anyone else. This allowed us to focus our attention on maintaining our other social media. Then, we focused on a major rebranding by designing a new logo to signify a new era of Xulava. That being said, our graphics still maintain the color-scheme/pattern approach for our graphics but changed up the colors completely. We then experimented with different approaches to things that had not been done by other Gulf Coast VSAs before. First are the VSA hijack posts. We wanted to convey unity within the region by showing up at other events. For XULA students, this meant seeing how close a student organization can be with other universities. For VSA members, this meant seeing that XULAVA was consistent with being present at other events and that they should also strive to maintain this image of regional unity. The second was using Instagram Live to show how/where people should park and find our event locations. Instagram Live posts only last for 24 hours, so they were convenient for everyone since we would not have to delete them the day after while also reducing clutter on everyone else’s Instagram feed. There is also the added benefit that a Live video can give a relative perspective of the surrounding area from the cameraperson’s viewpoint, where a birdseye view post is a bit more difficult to understand. This approach has actually been adopted by other VSAs. Lastly, we as an e-board transitioned from Slack to Discord. We now host an active discord community filled with members from other VSAs. Our e-board members are always active and available on there, and there’s a bot that reports new XULAVA news whenever there’s an update from the e-board. We’ve implemented these approaches as to bring XULAVA up-to-date with member interactions, and we hope to be an example of what to do for things that go well, or what not to do if what we’ve tried has not worked.
