Mississippi State University Vietnamese Student Association
MSUVSA Retreat
Provide a detailed description of the event and the population it served. Details MUST include: date of event, number of participants, program purpose (goals, objectives, etc.), use of resources (finances, community support, etc.), and marketing techniques.
This event was held from September 27-29th. This event was a two-day event but three for E-board members. There was a total of 75 people that came to this event. The purpose of this event was to show our members what VSA is about through little games and ice breakers. This was also one of our annual events that we host. This event is solely to have our general members bond and get to know each other. This year we had a big number of new people join and this retreat was a great way to gather everyone together. Financially we had to work hard to keep a budget to the minimum. How we did that was through using our Alumni's lake house as the location and cook for our members to keep it cheaper. As for marketing techniques we had our interest meeting and first general meeting be the main promotion for the event. We also talked a lot to our members about how great this opportunity is.
What efforts were used to motivate and involve the organization's members?
We motivated our members to come by talking about how this event is a great experience to meet new people and also have a fun get together before the semester gets tougher. A lot of the older members also talked to the new members about how fun the past few retreats are fun as well!
Did the organization overcome any challenges that arose while planning and implementing the event? How?
We had a lot of problems with figuring out what games to add because of the number of people that signed up to come to the retreat. This became a problem until the day of, and we overcame it by working together on how to fix it. We fixed it by allowing a flexible itinerary and by having a backup plan. By having back up plans and planning it elaborately we fixed the majority of the problems really quickly.

Here is a retreat video that our Historians made! Our historian Sam Zafico worked throughout three days of the retreat to make this video and presented the final day!
