Loyola Asian Student Organization

AAPI Heritage Month: Origami Art Activity with Loyola Asian Student Organization at the Louisiana Children Museum

Provide a detailed description of the event and the population it served. Details MUST include: date of event, number of participants, program purpose (goals, objectives, etc.) and use of resources (finances, community support, etc.).

LASO was invited by the Louisiana Children Museum to host a collaboration event/activity for AAPI Heritage Month! We've worked on the event for almost 2 months with LCM for a safe and engaging activity with the children. We had so many ideas but wanted to ensure it'll be an interactive and fun event overall! The event was on Saturday May 14th, 2022 from 11:30-12:30pm. Originally for one hour but we had many parents (who happened to be Loyola Alums haha) and children stop by! We stayed for 4 hours instead at our tables!
Two eboard members were able to attend due to finals ending and move out days for dorms and commencement that day but regardless it was very great community involvement!
The number of participants would be hard to say but it was at least 50 children and parents who stopped by and participated. :) The purpose of this program was to support the community and show an art activity in honor of Asian American and Pacific Island Heritage Month. Louisiana Children Museum was able to provide the booth and the origami paper! We had great support and resources from LCM which was very helpful and appreciative.

What efforts were used to motivate and involve the organization's members?

We understood that the event fell on commencement and was the same weekend for moving out the dorms and there wouldn't be many hands on deck. Regardless we showed up representing LASO and Loyola proudly!

Additional Comments

How did the organization overcome any challenges that arose while planning and implementing the event?

I had the graphics that LCM made for us and others! I'm only allowed to upload one image. The graphics from LCM are on their socials @Louisianakids on IG/FB.
