Please describe the purpose of this dance, including your intention, goals, and creative process.
Jamie Tran, a graduating Senior at Tulane, and Suki Cheung have played a vital role in TUVA and have choreographed/danced in TUVA's date auction dances for the past three-four years. Furthermore, I would love to honor Jamie's last year with us by nominating this dance which she spent hours on and with the biggest smile on her face. This year's theme for TUVA was Pokemon. Jamie and Suki used their experience choreographing dances in previous date auctions and ideas proposed by dancers to create a concept that explored the different stages of being a Pokemon Trainer, truly reflecting a VSA journey we could all relate to. Our excitement for college (Industry Baby), entering college and taking on leadership roles to represent our community on PWIs (Coming in Hot), finding VSA or VSA finding us and building long-lasting relationships (Best Friend), getting involved in UVSAGC and sponsored events such as CAMP DELTA to inspire future leaders (Level Up) and lastly, our collective passion to continue this work and celebrate/preserve Vietnamese culture and pride (All In). Additionally, the various colors in TUVA's performance outfits served to represent how diverse and vibrant our VSA community is!!!! Ultimately, we wanted to express the overall theme of community and the friends you meet in VSA using songs such as "Best Friend" and "All In" to communicate that message.
